From I-89
From the North (Montreal / Burlington)
Take I-89 South to Exit 13 (Shelburne Road). Turn south on Route 7 (Shelburne Road) and continue approximately 7 miles. The inn will be on your right in the center of Shelburne Village.
From the South (Boston / Montpelier)
Take I-89 North toward Burlington. For a direct approach to Shelburne, use Exit 13 (Shelburne Road) and turn south on Route 7 for approximately 7 miles. Alternatively, Exit 12 (Williston Road) connects west and north but adds time. Exit 13 is the most direct.
Parking at the Inn
One on-site parking space is included with every reservation at no extra charge.
Fence spots along the property are the primary parking area. Overflow spaces are also available when needed. If you are traveling with more than one vehicle, contact us in advance and we’ll confirm the best arrangement.
Free on-site parking is one of the practical advantages of staying in Shelburne Village rather than downtown Burlington, where parking often carries a daily fee. You park once and leave the car until you’re ready to explore.
Public Transportation Options
A car is recommended for most guests who want to explore the region freely, but some public and rail options do exist.
Green Mountain Transit Bus
Green Mountain Transit operates bus service connecting Shelburne and Burlington. Routes run along Route 7 (Shelburne Road) and serve the village area. This is a workable option for guests who want to get into Burlington for an afternoon without driving, though service frequency is limited compared to urban transit systems. Check the Green Mountain Transit website for current schedules.
Amtrak — The Vermonter
Amtrak’s Vermonter train stops at Essex Junction, a short drive from the inn. Neither Burlington nor Shelburne has a direct Amtrak station. Guests arriving by train at Essex Junction would need a taxi or rideshare to reach the inn. Plan for this connection in advance, especially for late arrivals.
Lake Champlain Ferry (Seasonal)
For travelers approaching from western New York or the Adirondacks via I-87, Lake Champlain Transportation operates seasonal ferries across the lake. The Port Kent, NY to Burlington, VT ferry runs typically from spring through fall and offers a scenic crossing. From the Burlington ferry terminal, it is approximately 7 miles to the inn. Verify current schedules and seasonal dates at ferries.lcchainbridge.com.
Our Recommendation
Having a car gives you the most flexibility during your stay — for visiting Shelburne Farms, Shelburne Vineyard, taking day trips to Burlington or the lake, or heading out for a Vermont drive. That said, Shelburne Museum is approximately 0.8 mile away and the village is immediately walkable. If your plan is primarily to unwind and explore the immediate area on foot, a car is less essential than you might expect.
