The Heart of the Village Inn has five rooms in the main house and four rooms in the carriage barn. All rooms have private baths, air conditioning, HD flatscreen TVs, and free wireless internet access. Each room also has a comfortable chair for reading or relaxing, two comfy robes, hair dryer, alarm clock-iHome, as well as a telephone with free local calls. Irons and ironing boards are available on request.
Each room is named for a Shelburne resident who played a key role in the history of this Vermont village. More about these interesting individuals and the history of the Inn can be found on our History page.
Room rates are listed for each room. The first rate is the regular room rate, while the rate in parentheses is the fall foliage rate (in effect from Friday, September 16, 2011 through Sunday, October 23, 2011). The room rate includes fresh-baked treats upon your arrival, and a deluxe Vermont Breakfast featuring baked goods, fresh fruit, as well as a featured item.

Van Vliet
Deep red floral wallpaper, lace curtains, and lovely patchwork invite you into this spacious second floor room. The bed can either be a king or two twins. The room’s four windows offer three different views of historic Shelburne village. Private bath with shower over a full size tub. Furnished with period furniture and armoire. This room is on the front of the house overlooking the village.
$190 per night (Foliage rate: $215 per night)
In 1886 Cyrus Van Vliet decided to build himself a grand private residence in the Queen Anne Victorian style--it is these buildings that now comprise the Heart of the Village Inn. Mr. Van Vliet was a prosperous merchant in Shelburne and ran a store with Henry W. Tracy -- called Tracy and Van Vliet -- in the brick building on the southwest corner of Shelburne Road and Harbor Road.
Marsett 
Three windows add to this second floor room’s light design of cream colors, wicker furniture, and floral patterns. The room has a lovely Queen sized wrought iron sleigh bed and views of the Inn’s gardens. The private bath with tub, shower and pedestal sink is just steps outside of the room. This room can be combined with the Harrington room to create a suite. The Marsett room is on the front corner of the house, overlooking the village and garden.
$150 per night (Foliage rate: $170 per night)
The Marsett farmhouse, located on the corner of Shelburne Road and Bostwick Road, was the center of a 142 acre dairy farm. Grandpa Marsett, who ran this farm, was active in many Shelburne community activities – including the School Board, Grange, Select Board, and the Methodist Church. He is buried in the Shelburne cemetery. None of his three children chose farming and so the farm was gradually sold. One of Mr. Marsett’s grandchildren lives in Shelburne today.
Harrington
Large stately second floor room on the side of the house, with northern views of the Inn’s gardens and yard. Yellow walls, plush navy window dressings & carpet, king-size bed and two large comfortable reading chairs give this spacious room its royal feel. The large private bath has a pedestal sink, claw foot bathtub, and a European rain showerhead. This room can be combined with the Marsett Room to create a suite.

The Harrington Room was named after Captain Benjamin Harrington who built a Shelburne public house now known as The Shelburne Inn. Over the years, the building has served as a public house, tavern, post office and town meeting place. It currently houses a French-style steakhouse, The Bearded Frog. Captain Harrington also opened the road between Burlington and Middlebury – now the infamous Vermont Rte. 7. The fifth generation of the Harrington family still live in Shelburne and run Harrington House Antiques.
Mary Deyette
This bright, cheery second floor room at the back of the Inn is decorated with yellow linens, floral wallpaper, and white wicker furniture. The room has a Queen sized bed and views of the garden from the bath as well as the bedroom. The spacious bathroom has a pedestal sink and claw foot bathtub, including shower. This room is toward the rear of the house overlooking the gardens.
$175 per night (Foliage rate: $200 per night)
The Mary Deyette Room was named after Mary Mills Deyette who grew up in Burlington, graduated from the University of Vermont, and during her long teaching career served as both principal and superintendent of Shelburne schools. She was also the first woman in Shelburne to own a bicycle, drive an automobile, and own a radio!
Tracy
The Tracy Room offers an atmosphere of intimacy and elegance, with its dark plaid wallpaper, rich wood work and furniture. This second floor room has a queen size bed and its private bath offers a pedestal sink, claw foot bathtub, and a European rain showerhead. Two large windows provide southern light. This room is on the side of the house.
$175 per night (Foliage rate: $200 per night)

The Tracy Room was named after the Tracy family who played a significant role in Shelburne history. Cyrus Tracy came to Shelburne in 1780. In the 1880s Hezekiah Lee Tracy built the Tracy House, a Shelburne historic building located on the southwest corner of Shelburne Road and Harbor Road, using brick from the original Shelburne Methodist Church. Three generations of the Tracy family have lived there. Henry Tracy was a founding citizen of the Shelburne Craft School.
Bostwick
This spacious, elegant room showcases the original wood of the Carriage Barn. The original three barn window casings offer evidence that this really was a barn! The private bathroom has a full size tub and shower. Quilts and drapes in a dark paisley design and period furniture help to create an atmosphere of relaxed elegance. The bed can either be a king or two twins, and this ground level room is conveniently only a few steps from the parking area.
$210 per night (Foliage rate: $230 per night)
The Bostwick Room was named after Dunbar Bostwick, owner of the extensive Bostwick properties in Shelburne. He donated the property that is now the Shelburne Town Beach, on the stipulation that the property be used solely for bathing and picnicking.
Fletcher 
The subtle beige, white and dark wood décor of this second floor Carriage Barn room create a hideaway that is relaxing and intimate. The room has a Queen sized bed and a skylight for stargazing. Original barn wood and exposed beams add to it's appeal.
$195 per night (Foliage rate: $215 per night)
The Fletcher Room is named after two well-known Vermont women - Mary Fletcher and her mother Mary Martha Fletcher. In 1876 Mary Fletcher, a young woman who never enjoyed good health, announced her intention to build a hospital in Burlington. It was to be the first hospital in Vermont, and it opened in 1879. She named the hospital after her mother, Mary Martha Fletcher. It was renamed Medical Center Hospital of Vermont in 1967.
Barstow
This ground level room is decorated beautifully with original barn wood, earth tones, soft greens and mauve. This spacious accommodation can have either a King bed or two twins, and includes two upholstered reading chairs and armoire. Large bathroom with fullsize tub and shower. This room can be combined with the Shelburne Room to create a wonderful family suite. Handicap accessible.
$210 per night (Foliage rate: $230 per night)
The Barstow Room was named after John L. Barstow who was the 39th governor of Vermont, elected in 1880. He was born in Shelburne and was buried in the Village Cemetery. His portrait hangs in the Town Offices.
Shelburne
The Shelburne Room, decorated in the same color scheme as the Barstow room, can be combined with Barstow to create a family suite. Shelburne is spacious, has a twin size daybed, a dining table for four, and can also accommodate two cots.

Webb Suite
The Webb Suite, located on the second floor of the Carriage Barn, is a stylish, intimate two room suite. The queen bed is positioned under two skylights for stargazing and the ¾ bath has a pedestal sink and shower. The luxurious second room of the Suite offers couches and a two person whirlpool bath for relaxing by candlelight. It is a perfect spot for a honeymoon, anniversary, or just getting away.
$260 per night (Foliage rate: $280 per night)
The Webb Suite was named after Lila Vanderbilt Webb and Dr. William Seward Webb who purchased a number of small Shelburne farms on the shores of Lake Champlain in the late 1800s. They developed a model agricultural enterprise which is now the educational foundation known as Shelburne Farms.
Our rates are based upon single or double occupancy, and when more than two individuals occupy a room, a $25.00 per person, per night surcharge will apply. All reservations require an advance deposit for each room reserved. Multi-night stays require a deposit of 50% of the total amount (not including tax), while a one-night stay requires full advance payment (including tax). Deposits may be made via credit card or check, however, a reservation is not considered confirmed until we have received the deposit. All rooms are subject to the Vermont State Tax of 9%.
